Every year in about late August or early September I swing into baking mode. Most people think of baking as breads and cakes and cookies, but the first thing I want to bake at the end of summer right before the holiday baking season begins is.....breakfast quiche.
There were two births that day in January on our farm. A seven pound eleven ounce baby girl, who they named Judy Lynne. The other birth was a little white puppy with a black patch over one eye. He was the runt of a liter of puppies and he became my dog. Because...after all...every little girl needs a dog for a friend, don't they?
If you are like me, this time of the year I have an abundance of squash out of my garden. It's amazing how many squash one plant can produce. So if you have more zucchini squash than you can eat, how about canning it into a delicious hot dog relish. And here in the south, we also eat this relish with brown beans. Very simple canning recipe for the beginner canner or if you have been canning for years. Enjoy!
