Easter Memories

Posted by Judy Taylor on

One of my passions is to make quilts and throws, pillows, pillowcases, table cloths, table runners, napkins, place-mats, curtains, and other home accent projects. But I never have been able to sew garments.

I made shirts for the boys when they were growing up, and as they look through the photo album at those old pictures today, they look at me and say "Mom, what were you thinking?" And they are right. Those shirts were pretty terrible.

My Mom, on the other hand, could make any type garment she set her mind to. She could take an old newspaper and cut her out a pattern and make any type garment without instructions.

Growing up, she made my sister and I shorts and crop tops for summer, and dresses year round. But my favorite memory of all the garments she made for us was Easter.

She would always make us the most adorable dresses for Easter, and since it was usually chilly around Easter, she would make us a little light weight spring dress length jacket as well. Then she would make flower headbands for our hair, and finish out our ensemble with white gloves, lacy white socks, and glossy patent leather shoes. I was always so proud of my new Easter outfit.

This picture of my sister and I was taken Easter of 1960 in our homemade Easter outfits.

Happy Easter to you and your families!
